OOM: Taking Sameth to Gotland again

Teja is in the forge, gathering a few things he is meaning to take to Gotland and show to Aligern -- for Adalgoth had told him that he would come to see them, soon.

It would, of course, be cheating history -- but then, Teja would gladly give his people any reasonable help he may.

No fire-arms, of course.

And then, of course, in the end, all his aid might result in could just as well be the development of the famous Ulberht swords that Teja has read about...

"I'm sure they won't. Is Count coming too?"

[ostro_goth]

"They might," Teja says. "And it seems that indeed, he is."

[makesthings]

"Well, then I'll try not to let anything bother me,"

Sam has his hands full so he laughs,

"He goes where he wants."

[ostro_goth]

"And if he does not wish to go, he rides," Teja says, opening the bar door with an elbow.

[makesthings]

"He's a cat, he gets what he wants,"

Sam follows after, making sure none of the things they're carrying bumps anything.

Teja walks through the bar, wending his way between the tables. "I hear he helped menace my murderer's dog the other day," he says. "The dog hid under the trilobite, he was so scared."

"Did the dog need to be menaced?"

He could see scratching Urquhart but maybe not his dog.

[ostro_goth]

"The cats seemed to think so," Teja says. "I wouldn't menace a dog, nor would I have stood by, had I been there."

[makesthings]

"I know, they probably enjoyed themselves. Dogs usually end up being easily worried by cats."

[ostro_goth]

"They do," Teja says. "Would you hold that blade, also, so I may open the door outside?"

They have reached the Door, and he needs to concentrate on the silver snake, to open it.

"Of course,"

Sam takes it and watches Teja work the snake again, he wishes he had some idea of how Sirona's magic works.

Teja just holds the silver snake, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

Then, he opens the door.

Outside, it is a rainy afternoon, with all the snow gone, and the old grass all slippery to the feet, on the way down from the barrow-hill.

As they step out, Sam leans for a moment on the barrow hill as he almost slips on the grass.

Teja reaches out to steady him.

Then, he puts away the snake bracelet. "Give me more of those blades," he says, "as I would not have you slip with them."

He takes very careful steps as well.

"Thank you, I didn't expect it to be that slippery,"

He looks around since he hasn't seen Gotland during the day before.

Teja takes some of the blades, and carefully makes his way downwards.

The sky is grey, and the clouds are hanging very low; a few unhappy sheep are clustering near the farmstead.

They start bah-ing as Teja and Sameth are coming closer.

"It looks like its going to rain soon,"

When the sheep baa, Sam grins, they wouldn't be that out of place in the Old Kingdom.

A door opens in one of the outbuildings, and a man looks out -- tall, broad and brown-haired. Sameth might remember having seen him asleep during that first visit.

"Teja!" he calls out, quietly. "Greetings! Why are you bringing all that cold iron?"

He doesn't ask about Sameth, but his gaze is openly curious.

Sam looks to Teja, he's not sure if he should introduce himself or wait so shifts the metal in his arms.

"My Adalgoth!" Teja says, walking towards his friend. "I brought some of the things I make, so I may show them to Aligern, if he is here already?"

Adalgoth gets dripped on from the roof of the little building; he steps out into the momentarily rain-free open, to take some of the metal from Teja.

"He is," he says. "In the forge, with Wachis, speaking of old times. We already told him, and he remembers the night when we were drunk, of course."

"There is nothing of course about it," Teja replies. "You were both very drunk. But it is good to know. This is Sameth, who sometimes works in the forge with me; he came to help me carry these."

"Greetings, Sameth," Adalgoth says, seeming oddly relieved. "You did not bring an anvil as well, one would hope?"

As they seem to have brought everything else.

"No, we couldn't carry one. If there's not enough space, we can always take things back,"

Adalgoth's smile makes Sam feel more sure and he returns the smile.

[gotland_npc]

"There is enough space," Adalgoth says, "it is just that you seem quite laden. And I was joking -- you might not realise, knowing only Teja, but Goths can make jokes if they feel like it."

Teja gives a little snort. "Be glad that I am so laden, or I would poke you in the side for this!"

"I am merely telling the honest truth, like an honest Goth," Adalgoth says, making an innocent face.

"I've seen Teja make jokes or at least laugh,"

It doesn't happen often but sometimes.

"Teja's jokes are mostly so dry and quiet, one needs a warning sign saying 'Attention, a joke will now follow!' to catch one," Adalgoth says, grinning. "but they do happen, yes."

He leads the way towards another outbuilding, this one a little further apart from the main house. Smoke is coming from the opening in the roof.

"I've found I can make him grin though that's not always on purpose,"

Sam knows that sometimes Teja thinks he's foolish but in a nicer way than Mogget does.
